6-year-old found safe after Amber Alert issued in Miramichi, N.B.

A six-year-old boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert issued Tuesday in Miramichi, N.B.,has been found on foot with his mother, the suspect, in Whitney, N.B. The boy is safe and the mother has been taken into custody, police said.

The six-year-old subject of an Amber Alert issued Tuesday was found safe, policesay.

The boyand his mother, the suspect, were found in Whitney, N.B., about 21 kilometres from where they were last seen. Sgt. Lorri McEachern with the Miramichi Police Departmentsaid the two were found on foot near the 2008 black Nissan Xterrathe motherwas driving.

"Everybody is safe," McEachern said.

RCMP saidthe child's motherhas been taken into custody.

LateTuesday morning,RCMP said she could be armed, and said they located the SUV but not the mother and child.

RCMP said the SUV was found near a snowmobile trail in the Whitney area, 21 kilometres west of where the boy was last seen.

He had beenlast seen in the Miramichi area at 2:30 a.m., the alert said.Miramichi police saidthe mother left the Douglastown area, about 170 kilometres northeast of Fredericton, sometime overnight.

"If seen, call 911 immediately," the alert said.

"Police have concern for the child's well-being," Miramichi police tweeted.

An RCMP news release saidthe mother, 33, "does not have custody" of the boy.
