N.B. shellfish harvesting ban extended

The federal Fisheries Department has extended a ban on most shellfish harvesting along the southwest coast of New Brunswick.

The federal Fisheries Department has extended a ban on most shellfish harvesting along the southwest coast of New Brunswick.

The department says clams, mussels, whelks and oysters should not be harvested because they may be contaminated with paralytic shellfish poisoning.

The latest orders mean all of the mainland coast of southwest New Brunswick is now closed to most shellfish harvesting from Saint John, N.B., to the Canada-U.S. border.

The department says areas on Grand Manan Island and Campobello Island are still open.
