NB Power smokestacks in Dalhousie to be demolished Sunday

A local landmark in Dalhousie will be demolished Sunday morning.

A raffle is being held in which the winner gets to push the button to bring the smokestacks down

A local landmark in Dalhousie will be demolished Sunday morning.

The smokestacks at the NB Power generating station have loomed over the town for more than 40 years.

At its peak, the station employed more than 100 people, but major operations stopped three years ago.

The demolition of the smokestacks is part of the decommissioning process.

MayorClemTremblaysays losing the smokestacks will be a major loss to the community's skyline.

"It'sgonnabe sad to a certain point because we give direction to people in and out of town. Where do I go and how do I find one route? Well, you justgottahave a look at the smokestacks in or out of town, and then you'll find your way," he said.

Tremblaysays tickets are being sold and the winner will get to push the button that brings down the smokestacks. The money raised will go to Recreaplex, alocal recreation facility.
