Warm temperatures break records in Maritimes

Saint John set a new high temperature record on Sunday, as the mercury climbed to 10.2 C, breaking the old record of 7.2 C which was set in 1916.

Saint John set a new high temperature record on Sunday, as the mercury climbed to 10.2 C, breaking the old record of 7.2 C,set in 1916.

"The most impressive recordof the weekend wasset on Saturday,"said Brennan Allen, a CBC meteorologist, whenGreenwood, Nova Scotia reached 20 C.

However the recordbreaking warm stretch of weather is over, Allen said.

"Yesterday, a cold front began to move through the region after some rain in the morning, which has dropped temperatures back below zero across the region in the overnight," he said.

"Today it will be important to exercise caution on the roadways after the freeze."

Meanwhile temperatures are expected to climb a few degrees above zero on Monday, remaining above seasonal in most areas.

"Skies will feature a mix of sun and cloud to partly cloudy conditions with a chance of showers later in the afternoon, except flurries in northern New Brunswick."

Allen said the next major weather system will arrive on Wednesday with rain, drizzle, fog and mild temperatures expected.

"Winterlike weather appears to be on hold for the moment."

Northern New Brunswick

Today: Skies will be partly cloudy with 2 to 4 cm of flurries expected. Winds will be from the southwest at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h and a high of 0 C.

Tonight: It will be partly cloudy with a chance of flurries, then clearing with light winds and a low of 15 C.

Tuesday: It will be mainly sunny with a high near 0 C.

Fredericton and area

Today: A mix of sun and cloud is expected with a chance of showers or flurries in the afternoon. Winds will be from the southwest at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h with a high near 6 C.

Tonight: It will be partly cloudy with a chance of flurries in the evening, then clearing with a low near 10 C.

Tuesday: Expect amix of sun and cloud with a high of 8 C.

Southern New Brunswick

Today: Skies will be mainly sunny withwinds from the southwest at 30 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h and a high near 6 C.

Tonight: A few clouds with a chance of flurries this evening and a low of8 C,4 C along the Fundycoast.

Tuesday: Expect a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 6 C.
