RCMP: not all officers back to work after Moncton shootings

The RCMP announced today that not all RCMP officers have returned back to work as a result of the Moncton shootings which took place six weeks ago.

Each RCMP employee must be cleared by health professionals before they are allowed back on the job.

With the magnitude of this tragedy, theprocess could take time, says RCMP spokesperson Julie Rogers-Marsh.

"Some people obviously may need to take some more time and we certainly appreciate that and it's however much time employees need, but we're there to support them and to be able to help them be able to come back to work but [there's]no timeline for that," she said.

The RCMP says the two officers who were shot and wounded are recovering from their injuries. Three other officers were killed in the shootings.

The RCMP also says there has been heightened awareness by people about safety and security in recent weeks. Between June 5 and July 4, RCMP received 24 9-1-1 calls regarding what sounded like gunshots, but were actually things such as fireworks and heavy machinery.
