Saint John police investigating child's death on Christmas Day

Saint John police are investigating why a child died Christmas Day after being taken to hospital from a north end address.

Police are 'currently protecting the scene' from which a medical call was made

Saint John police are investigating why a child died Christmas Day after beingtaken to hospital from a north end address.

Police received a callfor medical assistance to the city's north end early afternoon on Dec. 25., spokesperson Sgt. Jay Henderson said in a statement Saturday.

A child was transported by ambulance to Saint John Regional Hospital where he died, the statement said. The age of the child was not released.

When reached by phone, police said they had few details.

The major crime unit is "currently protecting the scene of this call as a precautionary measure while we await the details of a medical review to determine the cause of death," Henderson said in the statement.
