Robert Shannon pleads guilty to injuring motorcyclists in drunk crash

Robert Drew Shannon pleadedguilty in provincial court Wednesdayto charges relating to crashing into Mike and Kendra Burden while intoxicated.

Shannon pleadedguilty to causing an accident resulting in bodily harm with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and failing to comply with an undertaking in relation to the crash on June 19.

Shannon had also been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, and driving with a suspended licence relating to the crash, but thosecharges were reserved.

One of the victims, Kendra Burden, was on hand in the courtroom, along with other members of her family. Members of Shannon's family were in attendance as well.

Shannon hit the Burden's motorcycle with an SUV at the intersection of Cliff Street and Two Nation's Crossing. Shannon's election had been delayed numerous times in the previous three months.

Shannon will be back in court on Dec. 7 for sentencing. The Crown has asked for victim impact statements, and Judge Julian Dickson has ordered a pre-sentence report.
