New Brunswick adds 4,400 jobs in September, shrinks jobless rate

New Brunswick's jobless rate fell slightly to 9.3 per cent in September after the province added 4,400 jobs, according to Statistics Canada.

New Brunswick's jobless rate fell slightly to 9.3 per cent in September after the province gained4,400 jobs, according to Statistics Canada.

The monthly labour force report indicated the economy added 3,600 full-time jobs and 700 part-time jobs in September.

New Brunswick was one of only four provinces to see notable job gains, the latest seasonally adjusted figures released on Friday show.

"Employment in the province has been on an upward trend since the spring, following losses from October to March," the release states.

The unemployment rate dropped to 9.3 per cent in September from 9.4 per cent in August.

The participation rate moved up to 62.9 per cent from 62.2 per cent in August.

Quebec saw the biggest increase in jobs last month, up by 38,300. Ontario and Alberta also gained, at 21,500 and 13,300 respectively.

Across Canada, employment rose by 67,000.
