Victim found dead in Conception Bay South driveway had been abducted, police say

A man was violently abductedfrom a home and left dead ona Conception Bay South, N.L.,driveway onSaturday, police believe.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said late Saturday night that a "suspicious death" in the Kelligrewsarea of Conception Bay South (C.B.S.)was linked to a home invasion just a few kilometresdown the road earlier that morning.

Residents on Bayview Heights in C.B.S a community of about 25,000 justwest of St. John'sawoke Saturday morning to find a dead manlying face up at the bottom of a neighbourhood driveway.

Police say the dead man is the same one who is believed to have been abducted from ahome in theSeal Cove area of C.B.S.atabout 4 a.m. Saturday.

Violent home invasion

The RNC were called out to the Seal Cove residence early Saturday morningafter a 911 call.

Officers found the home engulfed in flames, and say a witness told police that several "masked, armed individuals" had forced their wayinto the home and assaulted a man inside.

The suspects then forcibly took the man from the residence. He was found dead on Bayview Heights, about seven kilometres away, four hours later.

Police say no arrests have been made in the incident, and are warning the public that the suspects involved are "believed to be armed and dangerous."

Neighbourhood in shock

The RNC had fully descendedonto Bayview Heights in C.B.S by 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The force had cut off access to most of the street and were taking statements from residents in the area.

Terri-Lee Coates said the discoverywas a shock in a friendly neighbourhood with a close-knit feel.

"You don't ever think of something like that happening," she said.

"Everybody knows everybody, there's lots of kids in the neighbourhood."

The investigation into the suspicious death is ongoing, and the RNC have promised they have "deployed significant investigative resources into locating those responsible."
