Six more school buses were taken off the road on Monday, following inspections on the Avalon Peninsula.

Service NL said in a statementthat six buses from Executive Taxi were pulled off the road, and two more were forbidden to carry passengersafter inspections on Monday. The EnglishSchool District said late Monday that the contractor provided service for schools in theGoulds area of St. John'sandOctagon Pond Elementary.

According to Gina MacArthur, a spokesperson for Service NL, the provincial government found multiple defects including problems with brakes and fuel leaks.

Only three of the 11 buses inspected on Monday were cleared to carry passengers.

Seven school buses from Island Bus Service were pulled off the road earlier in October, and the company and a mechanic are now charged with 100 breaches of the Highway Traffic Act.

Service NL saidit's currently completing its annual inspections of school buses in the province, and is aiming to have every vehicle checked before Nov. 18.

"Protecting the public with high standards of safety is a top priority for the provincial government, especially when it comes to the safety of children on school buses," MacArthur wrote.

Buses that are restricted, or pulled off the road, are allowed to return to service after they have passed a new inspection.
