A collision near Cartwright on Tuesday has raised some safety concerns overthe Cain's Quest snowmobile race.

One of the snowmobilers was taken to hospital after his machine crashed into a truck, where atrail for the race crosses over a local road.

Daphne Davis, whose partner was driving the pickuptruck, said the speed of the snowmobile was a part of the accident.

"He seen something black out of the corner of his eye, and before he had a chance to react or move or stop, all he seen was black plastic flying and he was hit by another Ski-Doofrom Cain's Quest," she said.

According to Davis, the heavily used trail could be dangerous if snowmobilers aren't careful around their speeds.

"A lot of people use those trails for getting wood and stuff, and a lot of the teenagers be's riding along the trails so I was just worried about how fast they were driving."

She said the pickup truck was driven off the road from the impact, but her partner wasn't injured.

The snowmobiler, Lloyd Rex Rich, was taken to a clinic in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, but his injuries aren't life threatening.

Rich was on the Manteu team from Natuashish.
