Tan etin Sheshatshiu? What's happening, Sheshatshiu?

Beginning this May, CBC journalists will be in Sheshatshiu to share stories about what matters most to the people who call this community home.

CBC is in Sheshatshiu and we want to hear your stories.

Beginning this May, CBC journalists will be in Sheshatshiu to share stories about what matters most to the people who call this community home.

Journalists John Gaudi and Heidi Atter are available to connect about whatever you think is important for people to know about you and your community.

CBC Newfoundland & Labrador has begun sharing Stories From Sheshatshiu. The team looks forward to continuing to deepen connections and share meaningful stories in the future.

Events to attend

  • May 26 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) - CBC hosts Movie Night: Join us at Arcturus Theatre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay for a free film screening. The movie Smoke Signals will be shown as a thank you to the community for sharing stories with CBC over the years. Enjoy a special pre-show performance by Shipu Penashue.
  • May 29 - June 2 - John Gaudi in Sheshatshiu: John will be in Sheshatshiu all week meeting and connecting with people. He'll have some great giveaways too, just look for the CBC truck. If you'd like to book some time to chat with John, reach him at john.gaudi@cbc.ca or 709-896-1666.
  • June 3 - 4 - Labrador in Focus Photography Workshop (Sheshatshiu Youth Centre): Sheshatshiu youth are invited for a 2-day workshop to learn photo skills from journalist Heidi Atter and to have their work become part of a community exhibit. Learn about previous workshops here. Sign ups for the workshop open on May 23. Sign up here.
  • June 12 - 16 - Heidi Atter in Sheshatshiu: Heidi will be spending time in Sheshatshiu for the week gathering stories and discovering new things about the community. Get in touch with her at heidi.atter@cbc.ca or 709-282-4105.

About John Gaudi
"I've been sharing stories from Sheshatshiu for more than a decade. It's so refreshing to find out what's happening in the community, and I always learn so much each time I visit. I'm excited about being out-and-about in Sheshatshiu to meet more of you - and to hear what matters, what's on your mind and to just to have a chat!"

John Gaudi is an award-winning journalist reporting from Happy Valley-Goose Bay for CBC's Labrador Morning. John most recently received a 2023 Atlantic Journalism Award for his feature on Atlantic Voice entitled I Still Live Here.

About Heidi Atter
"The more young people we can get interested in journalism, the better. We need those young children growing up in Labrador to know they can be the ones to share their own community's stories and those stories deserve to be heard."

Heidi Atter is an award-winning, multi-platform journalist working in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador. She is the creator of the Labrador In Focus youth photography program and held one of the first CBC Community Bureaus in Amachewespimawin. Heidi is passionate about working with youth and getting young voices on CBC News, and passing the microphone to youth whenever the opportunity arises.
