More affordable Corner Brook housing planned by mental health initiative

The group behind Summit Place, a multi-unit affordable housing project in Corner Brook, is looking to open up more space.

Jade Kearleyof theCommunity Mental Health Initiative (CMHI) said residents have been doing well since the buildingopened on Premier Drive in September 2012.

"We're just pleased that we can give them a place to stay that's affordable and that's a safe and clean apartment," Kearley told the Corner Brook Morning Show Tuesday.

Kearley said the mental health of those living in the units hasimproved since the move more than three years ago.

Summit Place currently houses 10 units.

Now, the group is planning on opening even more affordable housing spaces.

"We are in the midst of identifying and securing some land in the hopes of doing another build for four units," said Kearley.
