E. coli concerns prompt beef recalls at Sobeys, Foodland

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is recalling two ground beef products sold in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled ground beef products sold at a number of store across Canada because they may be contaminated with e-coli bacteria.

Most of the recalled products affect mainland Canada, but two products are sold in this province.

All store-made ground beef along with all value-added store-made or packaged products containing beef at Sobey's and Foodland stores are being recalled.

There have been no reported illnesses so far.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

Food contaminated with e-coli may not look or smell spoiled, however consumption of food contaminated with the bacteria my cause serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses.

Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea.
