CBC Feed N.L. Day: $59K raised and counting

More than $59,000 has been raised for CBC Newfoundland and Labrador's annual food donation drive.

Donations were taken in Corner Brook and Gander, turkeys were dropped off in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and a van in St. John's was filled with nonperishable food items as part of CBC NL's Feed N.L. Day (CBC)

Gifts were wrapped, vans were filled, and a haul was taken for CBC Newfoundland and Labrador's annual food and donation drive.

CBCNL'sFeed N.L. Day has raised about $59,000 for the Community Food Sharing Association. The money will be funneled back to food banks around the province.

"It's just been a five-star day," said Eg Walters, general manager of the Community Food Sharing Association. "Absolutely fantastic."

"The nonperishable food items that were collected, not only here, but throughout the whole province in the dominion stores, [and] the donations that were made at the Royal Bank of Canada branches are certainly signficant."

CBC NL hostedan all-day drop off Dec. 9 at our St. John's studio on University Avenue, from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. Our Corner Brook, Gander and Happy Valley-Goose Bay locations took donations in the morning, as well.

The action included a wrapping centre at the Avalon Mall in St. John's, with CBC Meteorologist Ryan Snoddon.

The grandtotal included somemegadonations fromEmeraNewfoundland and Labradorand RBC Financial Group.

Walters said after the food drive, stocks at the Community Food Sharing Association were "looking certainly a lot brighter."

Money is still rolling in, and donations can be still be made online until Jan. 6.
