Fire levels vacant Bell Island house

Police are investigating whether a fire that destroyed a house on Bell Island this weekend may have been deliberately set.

Firefighters tackled the blaze at the Fifth Street house when it was reported Saturday afternoon, but the house was engulfed in flames

RCMP said the house had been vacant for more than 20 years, and had been boarded up.

The only thing left standing was a brick chimney.

Police said the fire has been classified as suspicious and that an investigation will continue.
