Junior high students battle it out at Lego robotics event

Junior high school students from across the province took Legoto a whole new level Saturday, as more than 350 took part in a robotics competition atCollege of the North Atlantic (CNA) in St. John's.

The FIRST Lego League Robotics Competitionis a joint partnership between CNA and Skills Canada Newfoundland and Labrador.

FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology,designed the competition to help teach students problem-solving skills through building and programing a robot.

But the 13th annual event wasn't just about robots Skills Canada simultaneously held 16 other skilled trades and technology competitions in areas ofgraphic design, public speaking and photography.

Students from 24 different schools across the province took part.

Saturday'swinners will compete to representNewfoundland and Labrador at a national robotics event in New Brunswick this June.
