Murder-suicide victim laid to rest

The funeral for Juliane Hibbs, one of the victims of a double-murder in Conception Bay South last week, was heldMonday morning in Topsail.

Friends and family gathered at St.Johnthe Evangelist Church for the service.

Hibbs, 35, was shot and killed atVilla Nova Plaza on Oct.15 by her former boyfriend Brian Dawe, 43.

Dawe also shot Hibbs' boyfriend Vince Dillon, 45, who was waiting in the parking lot.

Dawe's body was found the next morning inhis truck at a cemetery in Mount Pearl.

Mary Dawe, a friend of the Hibbs family, said the service was a sombre occasion.

"It was very quiet, very solemn," she said. "Just heartbreaking."

According to Dawe, the family seems to be doing as well as can be expected.

"You have to go on with things, as hard as it may be," she said.

CBC has learned Dawe was wearing a bullet-proof vest when his body was found, and that he had an AK-47 assault rifle with hundreds of rounds of ammunition. He also hadthe 9-mm handgun used to shoot himself and his two victims.

Police laterremoved 43 otherguns from Dawe's home.

According to friends, Hibbs and Dawe has a tumultuous relationship, and experts have said the details point to a classic case of "intimate terrorism."
