Gas prices drop for 3rd straight week

Drivers in Newfoundland and Labrador are getting a break at the pumps Thursday, as gas prices are down for the third week in a row.

Drivers in Newfoundland and Labrador are getting a break at the pumps Thursday, as gas prices camedown for the third week in a row.

The Public Utilities Board lowered the maximum price retailers can charge for gas by 2.8 cents per litre in its weekly price adjustment.

The third consecutive order to drop the retail ceiling on pump prices means gas is about 11.5 cents cheaper than it was in mid-August.

Thursday's settingmeans driverson the Avalon Peninsula will now pay no more than$1.663 per litre. Some retails charge considerably less.

Maximum prices vary across the rest of the province, but range between $1.66 and $1.83 per litre in Newfoundland and between $1.64 and $2.20 per litre across Labrador.

The price of diesel decreased by 2.4 cents per litre. The change puts maximum prices between $1.70 and $1.82 per litre in Newfoundland and between $1.85 and $2.59per litre in Labrador.

Furnace oil decreased by just over two cents per litre, meaning customers in Newfoundland will now pay between maximum prices $1.06and $1.24 per litre for the fuel.

Stove oil decreased by the same amount across the province, putting maximum prices between $1.11 and $1.29 per litre in Newfoundland and between $1.22 and $1.95 per litre in Labrador.

Propane saw no change in price, which keeps maximum prices between 95 cents and $1.09 per litre in Newfoundland and between 82 cents and $1.26 per litre in Labrador.
