OCI workers ratify 2-year deal

Workers at six Ocean Choice International plants in Newfoundland have ratified a new collective agreement that offers small wage increases.

Workers at six Ocean Choice International seafood plants in Newfoundland have ratified a new collective agreement that offers small wage increases.

About 88 per cent of participating members of the Fish, Food and Allied Workers union voted to accept a new contract, which was hammered out just days after the FFAW organized a strike vote.

The pact will see workers get raises of between 1.5 per cent and two per cent per year, over two years.

The FFAW had recommended acceptance of the contract, noting that OCI had been seeking concessions at the bargaining table.

The deal involves workers at plants that St. John's-based OCI bought from Fishery Products International in 2007. The plants are in Bonavista, Dildo, Marystown, Port au Choix, Port Union and Triton.
