Paul Davis received $154K in PC leadership donations

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Paul Davis may have won his bid for party leadership, but he didn't raise or spend the most money.

On Tuesday, Davis released his donors' list for his campaign to become the leader of the Progressive Conservatives.

While Davis may have been the successful candidate in the race, he came in second in the amount of donations received.

Davis brought in $154,697 in donations. Meanwhile, Steve Kent received just under $170,000, and John Ottenheimer got $92,020.

Many of the donations made to Davis's campaign came from traditional sources, including constructions firms and various companies. However, a few names on the list stood out.

Davis, a former police officer, received one of his larger donations from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association at $5,000.

Also on the list was a $2,500 contribution fromLeo Power, who has been a longtime Tory supporter.Power is the partner of Judy Manning, who was appointed to cabinet by Davis earlier this year to sit as an unelected minister.

Manning has been in thespotlight since her appointment, and drew criticism for refusing to run in a series of recent byelections.

Manning has stated her preference is to wait for a provincial general election and run in her home district of Placentia-St. Mary's.

Davis also received a $2,500 donation from Ocean Choice International, a major seafood processing company.

Last week, Davis said the federal government was trying to put new stipulations on a $400-million fisheryfund linked to the CETA deal.

The campaign financing documents from Davis were released on Tuesday, four days after the PC Party's own deadline of Dec. 12.
