The gymnasium at the new Paul Reynolds Community Centre will be closed until September because of water damage.

According to St. John's Coun. Danny Breen, moisture was captured under the gym floor during installation.

"The contractor made several attempts to correct the problem with limited success, therefore replacement is required," wrote Breen in a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon.

Breen said the cost of replacement is about $110,000 and will be covered under the contractor's warranty, with no cost to the city.

The centre opened just a month and a half ago.
