Cold weather brings Hydro power watch to Avalon customers

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is notifying customers on the Avalon that there is a short-term power watch in effect for the next 24 to 48 hours as cold temperatures are expected to move into the island.

Customers not yet asked to conserve, but should be prepared for warning

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is notifying customers on the Avalon that there is a short-term power watch in effect for the next 24 to 48 hours as cold temperatures are expected to moveinto the island.

The utility said it's predicting increaseddemands on its system during high peak hours, particularly on Monday between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

In a statement released Sunday, NL Hydro said two units at the Holyrood generating station are working at a reduced capacity.

"No immediate action is required for customers, howeverthe electricity system is being monitored closely and Hydro will advise if anything changes," the releasesaid.

While no conservation request has been issued, the utility is asking customers toprepareto conserve in the event that things change.
