Demonstrator thanks female RNC officer after protest against Const. Doug Snelgrove

After Monday's Hell no Snelgrove! protest in St. John's, one demonstrator took the opportunity to thank a female officer despite her objection towards the constable'scolleague.

Margaret Cranfordwas one of many who gathered outside the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary headquarters Monday afternoon to protest Const. Doug Snelgrove.

Snelgrove, whohad sex while on duty with a womanwho had been drinking,was found not guilty of sexual assault on Friday.

The RNC constable drove the woman home from downtown St. John's in an RNC vehicle in 2014.

After Monday'sprotest,Cranfordmet mounted officer,Const. Michelle Reid, near the RNC offices and started a conversation.

"I just wanted to know, woman to woman, what her take was on it. How she felt. I wanted to thank her for her support, because she does support us," Cranfordsaid.

ThoughReid said it is an odd time to be in the RNC,she appreciates the reassurance from people like Cranford.

"It is still encouraging for us as police officers that despite the rally and despite things that are going on, that we still feel that we are encouraged ... We feel that the public can still come forward with any complaints and we'll investigate to the best of our abilities," she said.

"All we can hope for is the best possible outcome, but at least [this] keeps some positive in amidst all the negativity that's going on right now."
