Winning nans: Family of life-long friends celebrate Set for Life win

Duane and HazelParrottof Petley, Random Island, have a lot to celebrate this Father's Day weekend.

The province's latest Set For Lifewinners picked up their lump sum of $675,000 cheque on Friday at Atlantic Lottery headquarters in St. John's.

"I scratched the ticket, and I looked at it, and I seen the 'Set for Life' and I said, 'Ohmy God, this can't be,'" said Hazel Parrott.

The couple received the cheque the day before Duane Parrott's 50th birthday, and expect to have a big party in Petleywith all of their family and friends.

Hazel Parrottsaid their win is thanks to 22-year-old Tylor Stewart of Carbonear, since she bought the winning ticketafter seeing him win earlier this month.

"I just couldn't believe it," she said.

Hazel Parrott said she will stop working as a flagperson, but her husbandwill continue his construction job. They planto go on a trip with their kids.

'It won't be wasted, I tell ya'

While the Parrotts were certainly excited, it was probably their two mothers who were most thrilled.

EleanorParrottsaid she couldn't believe it when she heard the news about her son's lottery win.

"A cold shiver went over me, and I was trembling, tears running down my eyes," she said.

Her life-long best friend and mother to HazelPriscillaDaysaid she was amazed at her daughter's luck.

"It won't be wasted, I tell ya," she said. "Nice for them to go on a trip, take a vacation. They well deserve it."

EleanorParrott'stwo sons are married toPriscillaDay's two daughters.

The two women said they're proud of their hard-workingchildren and grandchildren, adding it's a wonder to see something so good happen to them.

Meanwhile, the Parrotts said they have to think a while about what to do with their winnings.

"I'm overwhelmed by everyone with the Facebookand wherever I go, they're really glad, they're just saying good things happen to good people," said Hazel Parrott.

Smith's General Store in Petley sold the winning ticket and will receive roughly $6,750the one per cent seller's prize.
