Blood-soaked clothing shown to jury at Stacey murder trial

A bloody T-shirt was among the evidence entered Tuesday at the trial of a man charged with killing a co-worker in Mount Pearl.

Blood-soaked clothing belonging to Clifford Comerford was shown to the jury in a second-degree murder trial in St. John's on Tuesday.

The T-shirt, jeans and underwear were worn by Comerford on the day he bled to death in a companyvan taking him and others to a chicken catching job at a farm in Harbour Grace.

Raymond Stacey, 25, one of Comerford's co-workers, is charged with second-degree murder.

Sgt.CorinneJames was one of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary investigators who worked on the case.

James told the court that she processed clothing belonging to Comerford, 41, including a blood-soaked T-shirt that had several cuts, two on the left chest, corresponding to wounds on his body.

Jeans worn byComerford, and a chain necklace, also had blood on them. She said there was also a cut at the top of the jeans and in the waistband of his underwear.

Earlier testimony inthe Supreme Court trial said Comerfordwas stabbed six times, and died from a wound in hisheart.

James testified that the winter coat Comerford had been wearing had 11 cuts in it.

Search of Power Street home

James was one of the RNCofficers who searched Stacey's mother's home Jan. 12, 2015, after her son had been arrested.

Stains neara bathroom wall tested positive for blood, while ones on a washing machine were negative, she said.

Police seized wet clothes from the washer a black hoodie, red jogging pants, T-shirt, two white laces, black shorts and black socks.

Earlier in the trial, another RNC officer testified that Stacey had been attacked by an alleged drug dealerat Comerford'shome on Power Street in St. John's on Jan. 9, 2015, two days prior to Comerford being stabbing.

Staceyhad gotten the cocaine from Comerford. Staceycomplained about the poor quality of drug, and Comerford went and got the alleged dealer, who put a beating on Stacey.

On Jan. 14, three days after Comerfordwas stabbed,Sgt.James said police searched Comerford's home on Power St. and found syringes some used, others not -- and a pipe used to smoke marijuana and a scale for measuring drug.

Jamessaid no weapons were found in a search of clothing and kit bags from the van in whichComerforddied.

The weapon that killed Comerford has never been found.
