Local sensor technology projects injected with provincial dollars

The Research & Development Corporation is pouring $2.2 million into five commercial projects supporting sensor-related technology in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Research & Development Corporation is pouring $2.2 million in five commercial projects supporting sensor-related technology in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The announcement was made by Christopher Mitchelmore, minister responsible for the Research & Development Corporation, on Wednesday in St. John's.

The total cost of the projects is $7.5 million, which will include fundingfrom the private sector and other funding agencies.

Sensor-related technology, such asradar,acoustics, optics, sonar and signal processing that can be exported around the world.

The following programs will be funded, in part, by the province:

  • Enhanced Asset Integrity Assessment through Live 3D Reconstruction, Inspection and Simulation: Whitecap Scientific Corporation
  • KATFISH: Development of Kraken Active Tow Fish for Ultra-High Resolution Seabed Survey: Kraken Sonar Systems Inc.
  • Remote and Controls for Controllable Trawl Doors: Notus Electronics
  • Integrated Remote Sensing for Mapping, Monitoring and Inspection: Approach Geomatics (RIS)
  • Vegetation Clearing Quality Control Using Unmanned Aerial Systems: Sikumiut Environmental Management Ltd.
