It's shaping up to be a good year for classic rock lovers in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Rod Stewart will be playing at an outdoor festival in St. John's on Saturday, July 11 on Confederation Hill.

According to a release Thursday, Stewart will headline at Confederation Hill Music Fest,an all-day festival for fans 19 years-of-age and older.

A maximum of 18,000 tickets are slated to go on sale.

Advance tickets will sell for $99.89.

Organizers expect to announceother musical acts over the coming weeks.

However, the statement said Blue Rodeo has also accepted an invitation to play.

Advance and VIP tickets are set to go on sale March 5 online, as well as in-store at North Atlantic Orange Stores across the island.

This new outdoor festival is set for July 11 the same day as this year's Salmon Festival in Grand Falls-Windsor.

Salmon Festival organizers have yet to announce this year's headline act.

According to Confederation Hill Music Fest promoter Pete Quinton, the conflicting dates were unintentional - it was the only date Stewart was available.

"We actually had the confirmation done before Salmon Fest announced their date, so I knew we were going to be the same date at that point," he said.

"There's nothing I can do about it because we're teamed up with two days before us is Cavendish Beach in Prince Edward Island and the day after is Kitchener, Ont., so it's not an intentional hit at Salmon Fest."

Quinton added that event organizers have been planning for a St. John's summer music festival at thislocation since 2012.

The show comes on the heels of an announcement from classic rockers Journey, who are set to play at Mile One Centre in August.

Counting Crows also announced earlier this month they will be playing a show in St. John's.
