The kayak, a paddle, and a cap he was wearing have been recovered.

Terrance Kavanagh, who was pulling his lobster pots around 8 p.m. on Friday night, said the brother of the missing man asked him to go back out to join the search.

"I went up first and [saw] nothing then because it was a bit foggy," he said.

When he returned, the missing man's brother thought he could see the kayak in the distance. Kavanagh headed out another time.

"When we went up, we found the kayak. It was there, upside down," he said.

On Monday morning, the Avalon North Wolverines Search and Rescue team scoured the foggy area in a Zodiac, and were also looking under water with a powerful camera.

By Monday afternoon, visibility had improved greatly.
