Woman's body found in area off O'Brien Farm Road in St. John's, police confirm

Police say a body was found in the Mt. Scio Road area of St. John's on Saturday morning, and a ground search is underway in connection to that discovery.

Police say the body is not Cortney Lake's

Police are treating the discovery of a woman's body near O'Brien Farm Road in St. John's as a suspicious death.

Thebody was discovered by a member of the public Saturday morning.

The RNC is with-holding the woman's identity for now, as it works with the office of the chief medical examiner to determine cause of death.

Police have confirmed the discovery is not connected to the case of Cortney Lake, the 24-year-old mother of one who was last seen June 7.

The RNC deemed her disappearance a homicide, but her body has not been found and no one has been charged.

Members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and Rovers search and rescue team are conducting a ground search of the area, which is off Mt. Scio Road.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday, police hadpart of O'BrienFarm Road blocked off with a command centre set up.

At 1:30 p.m., the RNC tweeted that it is an active crime scenewith the major crime unit investigating.
