Thirteen out of 500 Farmers employees received layoff notice Monday and Tuesday.

No one from the plants were laid-off. The layoffs were in the companys support, finance and supply offices and included secretaries and managers.

The Truro office laid off one person. Ten people were let go from the Bedford office and another two people were laid off in Newfoundland.

Four people opted for early retirement.

The company is still evaluating the future of the Truro cheese plant. Its possible that the cheese plant could face closure. A decision will be made in the coming weeks, said a spokesperson for Farmers Dairys parent company, Agropur.

Agropur is a Quebec/Canadian company that merged with Farmers earlier this year.
