The Grade 3 class at Smallwood Academy in Gambo have channeleditsinner Taylor Swift, in the hopes of winning an energy saving contest.

The students switched out the lyrics to Shake It Off, one of Swift's mega-hits, to create Turn It Off their video submission into the Newfoundland LabradorHydro's and Newfoundland Power'sTake Charge NL contest.

The students said they had a lot of fun duringfilming.

"Some of us turned the lights off. I turned the heat down. And we also danced up the stairs," eight-year-old Rachel Harveytold CBC News.

"It was the first time I was on YouTube," said 8-year-old Amity Mazhara.

The experience has left Taylor swift fan BreannaCollinsspeculating on the chances their video might catch the pop singer's attention.

"I would scream! [And] tell her she should just try and save energy."

Teacher Paula Ennis came up with the idea after noticing the contest online.

"Ithought it would be a reallyneat way to get the kids involved. They love using technology, and it was a nice little idea. And Taylor Swift kind ofsticks in your head," said Ennis, adding the students seem to have soaked up the message.

"If Ileave the room with the light on, they're quick to tell me I have the light left on."
