WAM Picks: Master fiddlers and virtuoso guitarists

If the great outdoors doesn`t tempt you on thisVictoria Day weekend, the great indoors has plenty of live music to keep you entertained.

Friday

The LSPU Hall hosts an acoustic guitar tour de force, featuring Tony McManus and Steve Dawson.McManusis among the great guitarists in Celtic music, while Dawson is a recognized master of the slide guitar. Showtime is 8p.m.

"Try To Remember: A Night of Musical Theatre" is a cabaret featuring 10performers. D.F. Cook Recital Hall, Memorial University, 7:30 p.m.

One of pop music`s iconic singer-songwriters comes to town, as five-time Grammy Award winnerJames Taylor plays the first of two shows withhis All-Star Band. Mile One Centre, starting at8:30 p.m.

Calling all fiddlers: It's World Fiddle Day, and the St. John's Arts and Culture Centre is hosting a giant jam session to celebrate. Players and lovers of the fiddle, violin, and other bowed instruments are invited to come together and play three tunes: Mussels in the Corner, Pretty Little Mary, and Auntie Mary.Cape Breton fiddling sensations Natalie McMaster and Donnell Leahy will join in. This is a free event in the Arts and Culture Centre concourse, from 1:30 p.m. to 3p.m.

Natalie McMaster and Donnell Leahy begin their Newfoundland and Labrador tour in St. John's. They'll be joined by their band and their family for a rousing night of world-class fiddle music in the Cape Breton tradition.St. John's Arts and Culture Centre, showtime at 8p.m.
