Agnico Eagle's Meliadine gold mine gets its project certificate

The Nunavut Impact Review Board has given Agnico Eagle the go-ahead on the company's second Nunavut gold mine.

Company intends to mine and process gold at site near Rankin Inlet

The Nunavut Impact Review Board has given Agnico Eagle thego-ahead for the company's second Nunavut gold mine.

The Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development accepted NIRB's recommendation that the Meliadine project be given the green light, and the board has issued the company a project certificate.

The Review Board attached 127 conditions to the project certificatecovering everything from wildlife monitoringto air quality control.

The company intends to mine and process gold at the sitenear Rankin Inlet.

Agnico Eagle already has one fully operational gold mine in the Kivalliq: the Meadowbank mine near Baker Lake.
