ATV found, but search continues for overdue Kugluktuk hunter

Searchers found Allen Kudlak Jr.'s ATV stuck in the mud about 10 kilometres outside of Kugluktuk on Saturday, but there's still no sign of Kudlak himself.

A search is underway for a hunter reported overdue in Kugluktuk, Nunavut.

RCMP say Allen Kudlak Jr. left the community on Thursday Aug. 11, travelling on his ATV with a rifle, but no other supplies orequipment.

Kudlak was reported missing to the RCMP the following day when he failed to return home.

Local search and rescue started searching for Kudlak on Saturdaywhen his ATV was found in Kugluk territorial park, about10 kilometres southwestof the community.

"There was gas in the ATV. It was stuck in the mud. So we know now he's on foot. We just don't know what direction he went," said Corporal Jean LucBedard, theRCMPdetachment commander inKugluktuk.

"We were unable to find any path or any prints on the ground."

The search currently includes 17 ATVs, boats and a helicopter.

Bedard says Kudlak is believed to be an outdoor enthusiast who knows the land well.
