Armed robbery at Iqaluit's Apex Road Quickstop under investigation

On Saturday, a masked gunman demanded cash at the Apex Road Quickstop. It follows a robbery at knifepoint at the Quickstop in Inuksugait Plaza in early December.

An Iqaluit convenience store was robbed at gunpoint this weekend.

On Saturday, a masked gunman demanded cash at the Apex Road Quickstop.

Staff at the store then called the RCMP in to investigate.

Police say the suspect was an Inuk male, about 5 foot 6 inches tall, who wore a balaklava.

It's the second armed robbery in the capital in two months.

Last month, the Quickstop in Inuksugait Plaza was robbed at knifepoint.

RCMP Sgt. Yvonne Niego says being held up by an armed robber is a difficult experience for anyone to go through.

They can be traumatizing, she says, advising that staff take whatever time they need to recover. Make sure that you have all of your supports.

Niego says local RCMP are working on a plan to deal with the rising number of these incidents.
