Burwash Landing brothers found guilty in confinement case

A former Yukon First Nation chief and his brother have been convicted for unlawful confinement.

A Yukon judge found Willie Sheldon and Derek Johnson guilty on Tuesday of restrainingan 18-year-old guest from leaving their all-night drinking party in BurwashLandingin August 2013.

The victim in the case, Colin Johnson, had been drinking with Sheldon and Derek Johnson and later complained they tortured him. Johnson has since committed suicide.

No one will say what really happened that night. The judge has ruled there's enough evidence that Colin Johnson wanted to leave the party and was forced to stay.

Martina Amos, ColinJohnson's aunt, said "there are people who know things that happened but there will be a time for that to come out.

"It's very hard for everybody, very heartbreaking, and I'm happy to see that some sort of justice happened today."

Family of the two men convicted were furious.

Sentencing has been adjourned until late January 2015.
