Friends of Destiny Nahanni-Hope, the 20-year-oldwoman who was found dead outdoors in Wrigley, N.W.T., last week, say alcohol and a series of confrontations led to her death.

Kyra Harriss, 18, who lives in Fort Simpson, wasNahanni-Hope's best friend. Nahanni-Hope was from Fort Simpson but was living in Wrigley with her boyfriend.

Harrissays she last spoke to her on Wednesday, Dec.3, theday Nahanni-Hope was last seen alive.

"That night she went out drinking," says Harris.

Harris wasn't with her best friend that night, but she is close to everyone who was. She says family and friends tell her Nahanni-Hope got in an argument with her boyfriend, and left the house they were drinking in on foot.

She was picked up on the highway to Fort Simpson. The driver brought her back to Wrigley. She then continued to drink at a second residence.

Another argument occurred and she left that house, this time without a jacket and wearing only one shoe. According to Environment Canada, the high that day in Wrigley was -21 C.

Nahanni-Hope's body was found Friday, frozen, behind a house.

Harris says she was told a trail of footprints was found leadingtothe steep banks of the Mackenzie River, and that Nahanni-Hope may have fallen off the edge.

"Some of my friends don't want to go the funeral because they feel guiltybecause that happenedin their community and they should have been watching her," says Harris.

"It took two days for them to realize that she wasn't there, that she was gone. It took two days for them to go look for her."

Harris says there has been arguing and anger between families in the two communities over Nahanni-Hope'sdeath.

"Fighting's not going to bring her back," says Harris. "I think people should be there for each other instead of fighting and arguing."

No date has been set for her funeral.
