Drugs, cash and weapons: Yellowknife RCMP charge 6 following 2 week investigation

Six men face drugs and weapons charges following arrests made Wednesday evening in Yellowknife.

Police say Edmonton based drug network had returned to Yellowknife to set up shop

Six men face drugs and weapons charges following the execution of four search warrants in the Yellowknife area Wednesday.

RCMP conducted searches of aFred Henne territorial park campsite, a downtown apartment andtwo vehicles, all on the evening of May 31. Approximately 170 grams of cocaine, 445 grams of marijuana, $20,000 cash and a shotgun were seized, along with other items.

The six people arrested are charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, careless storage of a firearm, and the possession of the proceeds of crime exceeding $5000.

"We believe this group is part of a larger drug trafficking network based out of Edmonton, Alberta, and that they recently set up shop in Yellowknife, after a hiatus of several years," saidGDivision Federal Investigations Unit Sgt. Dean Riou in a statement.

Riou said the arrests followed a two-week investigation.

All sixmen are in custody and scheduled to appear in court on Monday, June 5.
