Family, RCMP plead for information in Billy Cholo homicide

No charges have been laid almost 11 months after the body of Billy Cholo was found in Fort Simpson, N.W.T., but police believe there are witnesses who could help break the case.

Our Investigators are confident there are witnesses with information that can solve this homicide, said Cstl.Elenore Sturko in a news release Friday.

Cholo, 45, was found dead in a gazebo not far from his home in Fort Simpson, pop. 1,200, last January after his family had called for a search. Shortly after, the RCMP ruled his death a homicide.

Edward Cholo, Billy's uncle, was with RCMP when the body was found.

"Somebody told us to look in the gazebo, because everyone was talking about it," he said at the time.

In an interview the CBC Friday, Edward said people in town know who was involved in his nephew's death.

Even when I go to Fort Providence or Yellowknife or Hay River, everybody's wondering what happened and how come they're not doing nothing about it, he said.

The suspects are just walking around, the whole town knows who they are, but the cops are not doing nothing about it.

Police say anyone with information about Cholo's death can call Crime Stoppers anonymously.

They say anyone with information leading to an arrest may be entitled to a reward.
