1 man dead after Alaska Highway collision in Whitehorse

RCMP say the 32-year-old B.C. man was killed when his truck hit another vehicle that was pulled over on the shoulder of the highway, late Sunday night.

Whitehorse RCMP are investigating a Sunday night collisionon the Alaska Highway in Whitehorse that left one man dead.

Police say a Ford F-350 pickup truck hauling a flat-deck trailer hit a Nissan SUV that was pulled over on the shoulder of the highway, just north of Two Mile Hill. It happened at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday night.

In a news release, RCMP said one of the truck's front tires was destroyed on impact, causing the driverto lose control and veer off the road. The truck rolled on an embankment and landed on its roof.

RCMPsaid the driver of the truck, a 32-year-old B.C. man, was found dead next to the vehicle. He hadnot been wearing a seatbelt and waswasejected from the vehicle on impact.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

The highway was closed for about three hours early Monday morning.

RCMParecontinuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
