Igloolik boil water advisory lifted after 5 weeks

A boil water advisory for Igloolik, Nunavut, has officially been lifted now that a new pipe - fitted with filters - has been installed in a nearby lake.

New pipeline, including filters, will stop organisms from getting into the water

Aboil water advisory for Igloolik, Nunavut, has officially been lifted, the Government of Nunavut says.

People in the community of about 2,000 were first ordered to boil their water June 9. The problem began withice that didn't melt in the community's reservoir, prompting the hamlet to warn people to conserve.

They later began piping water from a nearby lake, but that brought several unusual organisms into people's water taps.

Now the Nunavut government has installed a new pipeline from a nearby lake to the man-made reservoir that includes water filters to stop flukesor other organisms from getting into the water.
