Iqaluit water shutdown continues into third day

An advisory released Monday morning by the City of Iqaluit said that the city's water shutdown, which began Saturday morning when crews discovered a water main leak, is still ongoing.

City says the emergency water shutdown will continue 'until further notice'

An emergency water shutdown in Iqaluit, Nunavuthas continued into its third day, with no end in sight.

An advisory released Monday morning by the City of Iqaluitsaid that the shutdown, which began Saturday morningwhen crews discovered a water main leak, is still ongoing.

In the process of fixing the originalleak, city workers found additional leaks, the city said Saturday in a news release.

According to the City's announcement, all housing units in the 100s, 200s, and 300s should have water restored, except for units 157, 159, 161, and 163 on Nipisa Street, between Queen Elizabeth Way to Kuugalaaq Street.

"This would include theDepartment of Education,AyayaMarketing and Communications, Quick Stop, Video Shack, The Snack,and theNorthern Employees Union HallandQulliqEnergy as well as residential units on this street section," reads the advisory.

The city says the emergency shutdown will continue "until further notice."

Any residents affected by the water shutdown and needing water are asked to call (867) 222-2947 to organize a water truck delivery. Residents who call for a delivery are asked to have their own containers ready to be filled.

The city is also offering water and shower services at the AWG Arena until 9:30 pm Monday night.
