Jeffrey Salomonies trial approaches in Daisy Curley death

A first-degree murder trial should proceed as expected this February, but first both Crown and defence lawyers say there are key people who still need to be questioned.

Jeffrey Salomonie, 47, is charged in connection with the death of Daisy Curley.

She was found dead in her Iqaluit home in May 2009.

Salomonie wascharged more than two years later, in June, 2011.

His trial is set for February 2 in Iqaluit and is expected to last five weeks.

Yesterday, in the Nunavut Court of Justice, Crown prosecutor Paul Bychok said there are several additional potential persons of interest with possible information.

He says the RCMP Major Crimes unit resources, however, are stretched thin.

Justice Robert Kilpatrick recommended the Crown push the RCMP Major Crimesto investigate these key people as quickly as possible.

Kilpatrick says the timing now presents a problem.

Since the upcoming trial is so close, it may not leave enough time for the defence to prepare.
