Jordin Tootoo holds hockey game fundraiser in Rankin Inlet

Nunavut's NHL hockey star Jordin Tootoo isn't in the playoffs this year with his team the New Jersey Devils, but he's stillputting his freetime to good use.

Tootootook part in a hockey game andsilent auction Thursday night in Rankin Inlet in support of the Pulaarvik Kablu Friendship Centre.

The event was put on by the Team Tootoo Fund,a charity he started in 2011 in memory of his late brother,Terence. It supports non-profit organizationsthat addresssuicide awareness and prevention, and youth at risk.

"Far too often we suppress our feelings and that's not healthy for you," he said.

"I changed my life fouryears ago.I became sober and today I am grateful for that and it's just led me to have more clarity in life and what my purpose is."

Tootoo saidhe will be in his hometownfor another weekand is looking forward to spending time with family and friends.
