Loose dog shot after attacks in Iqaluit

The RCMP shot and killed a dog in Iqaluit Wednesday morning after the animal attacked a person outside the Iqaluit NorthMART grocery store.

The RCMP shot and killed a dog in Iqaluit Wednesday morning after the animal attacked a person outside the Iqaluit NorthMART grocery store.

Police were called at about 6:30 a.m. to an area near the store. Two loose dogs were fighting and attacking a small group of people. One person was bitten by one of the dogs.

"One of the police officers deployed his pepper spray on the two dogs. One of the dogs attacked one of the RCMP officers and their firearm was discharged at the dog, killing the dog," said RCMP Cpl. Yvonne Niego.

Iqaluit municipal enforcement officers are investigating.
