No suspect in custody Saturday after fatal Friday shooting outside Whitehorse home

A 32-year-old man is dead after being shot outside a house in a Whitehorse neighbourhood Friday night, with witnesses saying a dark-coloured minivan fled the scene.

The fatal shooting, which RCMP are calling ahomicide, took place around10 p.m PTon Stan McCowanPlace in the city's Porter Creek neighbourhood. Gunshots were reportedly heard.

No arrests had been made and nobody was in custodyas of late Saturday afternoon.

"At this point, the people seen by witnesses leaving the scene in the minivan are persons of interest," said Coralee Reid, a spokesperson for the RCMP.

Peopleinvolved in shooting 'may be armed'

The RCMP said it waslooking to speak with anyone who may have information onthe people involved. According to the press release, police say theymight have weapons. They're also looking for more detailson the car, which some witnesses described as "older style" and "possibly red or maroon."

"We do not believe that this incident was a random act of violence," saidSergeant Greg Holmberg, with the Yukon RCMP Major Crimes Unit, in the release.

"The RCMP urges all Yukoners to remain vigilant, keeping in mind that the person(s) involved in this incident may be armed. Please report any information to police immediately."

The male victim, who was not identified by police, was taken toWhitehorse General Hospital but died as a result of his injuries shortly after 11:00 p.m.
