Mayo, Yukon's new pizza joint, the only eatery in town

Mayo on pizza maysounddisgusting, but pizza inMayo? Much better.

Mayo, Yukon, that is a remote community of about 400 people.

"There's noother eatery in Mayo," said Kathleen Lundgaard, whojust openedTony's Pizzeria in the community this week.

"We'll have 100 per cent market share!"

Lundgaard and her husband have operated Tony's Pizzeria in Whitehorse for 15 years. When the opportunity came up to expand toMayo, a five hour drive north, they jumped at it.

They've signed on for a oneyear lease, "to test the waters."

"Pretty much everything we have at the Whitehorse location we're going to have at the Mayo location, just a little bit downsized," Lundgaard said.

That means pizza, pasta, calzones and donairs. They have a liquor licence so you can enjoy a glass of red with your meal. They're also hoping to draw a lunch crowd byselling pizza by the slice.

"We're going totest the market firstand see what people like."

You can take your food to go, but don't bother calling for delivery. It's Mayo.

"Everything's pretty close to everybody, so they canjust come pick it up," Lundgaard said.
