The Yukon government has temporarily closed a popular sight-seeing bridge in Whitehorse, after a safety inspection this week.

Ben Yu Schott, with the department of Community Services, saidinspectors studied the Robert Lowe suspension bridge at Miles Canyon Tuesday and Wednesday, and immediately decided it needed a more comprehensive inspection. The bridge will remain closed to pedestrian and other traffic until that's done.

But Yu Schott would not say whether there were specificconcerns or problems with the structure.

The bridge, which connects to a network of trails, is popular for walkers, photographers and othersightseers. Thedangerous and fast-moving Yukon River passes a few metres below.

"There's nothing, visually, that would be a concern for us,but we just want to make sure," he said.

Yu Schott says the new inspection could take up to two weeks.

Barriers and signs have been installed at the bridge to keep people off in the meantime.
