Booking a flight in and out of Iqaluit for the first two months of the new year may be a little more challenging.

Due to planned maintenance by Canadian North, the Ottawa to Iqaluit codeshare route will be served by a single daily flight operated by First Air from Jan. 5 to Feb. 28, 2017.

The flight is scheduled to leaveOttawa at 9:15 a.m. and arrivein Iqaluit at 12:25 p.m. In the afternoon it will go southbound from Iqaluit at 1:45 p.m. and arrivein Ottawa at 4:50 p.m.

Passengers who have already booked their travel during these dates will be automatically re-accommodated on the revised First Air-operated flight and notified of the change, states a Canadian North media release.

Additional freighter flights will be added to accommodate cargo shipments as required, the comany said.

This is not the first time the Northern airlines have done something like this.

Last February First Air had one of its aircrafts out for maintenance.

During those 20 days, Canadian North used one of its larger-capacity aircraft on the route to ensure the number of seats available remained about the same.

Additional cargo flights were also added, according to Canadian North.

CBC has requested comment from the airline on what if any measures will be undertaken this time to ensure that all passengers and cargo can be accommodated with a single flight during the scheduled maintenance in 2017.
